Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and career-driven Technical Superintendent to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a marine engineering professional transitioning from sea-going service into a shore-based role, where you will gain hands-on experience managing vessel technical operations, maintenance, compliance, and performance across our fleet.
Working alongside experienced maritime professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring our vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with international regulations while developing the skills required for a successful long-term career in technical fleet management.
Purpose of the role
To support the safe and cost-effective operation of assigned vessels by overseeing technical maintenance, regulatory compliance, inspections, repairs, procurement, and operational performance while ensuring adherence to Company, Flag State, Class, and HSE requirements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor vessel maintenance activities and planned maintenance systems to ensure operational reliability and regulatory compliance.
- Support vessel inspections, audits, surveys, and dry-docking activities.
- Conduct vessel visits and technical inspections to assess equipment condition and maintenance standards.
- Review technical reports, maintenance records, and certification documentation.
- Coordinate with vessels to ensure timely availability of spare parts, services, and technical support.
- Monitor and follow up on corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, incidents, and deficiencies.
- Assist in preparing vessels for Port State Control (PSC), Flag State, Class, and customer inspections.
- Support the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) and HSE initiatives across the fleet.
- Participate in incident investigations and contribute to preventive and corrective actions.
- Monitor vessel operating costs and support budget preparation and cost control activities.
- Review and approve technical requisitions and purchase requests within delegated authority.
- Assist with dry-docking projects, repairs, and major maintenance activities.
- Support insurance claims and technical documentation during repair periods.
- Maintain effective communication with vessel crews, owners, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Keep abreast of industry developments, technological advancements, and maritime regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or substantial senior engineering officer experience preferred.
- Previous experience maintaining and operating commercial maritime vessels.
- Strong understanding of marine engineering systems and vessel maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of Class, Flag State, ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, and PSC requirements.
- Familiarity with planned maintenance systems and vessel management software.
- Exposure to dry-docking, repairs, and technical project management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
