Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role based in Chennai for a Structural Design Engineer at Modulus Housing. The primary responsibilities include conducting structural analysis, preparing detailed engineering designs, and using computer-aided design software to develop construction plans. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure structural systems are safe, efficient, and adhere to the highest quality standards. You will also be tasked with reviewing designs, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
Qualifications
Structural Design & Analysis
Design and analyse PEB steel structures, LGSF systems, and RCC elements in compliance with IS 800, IS 875, IS 456, and IS 1893. Apply DFMA principles to optimise designs for efficient factory fabrication, module assembly, and on-site erection.
Prepare and review structural calculations, connection designs, anchor bolt layouts, and foundation interface details.
Coordinate with architects and MEP engineers to integrate structural solutions with overall building design.
Documentation & BOM
Develop detailed structural BOMs specifying all steel and RCC components with quantities aligned to procurement needs.
Produce clear fabrication drawings with dimensions, tolerances, weld specifications, bolt-hole locations, and surface treatment requirements.
Collaborate with the BIM team to extract model-based BOQs and ensure zero mismatch between design, procurement, and site quantities.
Support the estimation team with approximate superstructure and substructure quantities at the tendering stage.
Quality, Approvals & Site Coordination
Prepare and submit structural design documents for vetting by IITM or other designated approval bodies; address review comments promptly. Specify steel grades and certifications; review mill certificates to ensure materials meet IS standards. Collaborate with the BIM Lead on detailed erection drawings covering erection sequence, bolt tightening, and lifting procedures. Conduct site inspections during erection to verify compliance with drawings; maintain QC documentation for inspections and non-conformances.
Process & Continuous Improvement
Contribute to and maintain design SOPs, standard calculation templates, and drawing checklists for the PEB design team. Identify and implement value engineering opportunities to improve project margins without compromising structural integrity.
