About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Android Platform Engineer – Video with strong expertise in AOSP / AAOS, Android framework, multimedia, and graphics stack to work on automotive-grade Android platforms. The role involves deep system-level development, Android framework and HAL customization, performance optimization, and close collaboration with cross‑functional and multi‑location teams to deliver customer‑centric in‑car multimedia solutions.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop Android framework components and HAL services tailored for automotive platforms.
- Customize Android Automotive framework components (audio, video, camera) aligned with MBOS / automotive platform requirements.
- Work extensively on video and multimedia subsystems within AOSP/AAOS.
- Perform performance measurement, tuning, and optimization to meet automotive KPIs.
- Develop and integrate HWComposer HAL for new hardware devices.
- Collaborate with User Experience / Concept teams to translate product concepts into platform implementations.
- Work with multi-location engineering teams and product owners for customer-centric Android app and multimedia integration.
- Quickly ramp up on Embedded Android and Linux technologies to support full-stack Android platform development.
- Contribute to CI/CD workflows, code reviews, and agile delivery practices.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Solid expertise in AOSP, AAOS, Android Framework, and Services (Multimedia, Camera).
- Strong knowledge of Android graphics architecture and pipeline, including:
- SurfaceFlinger
- HWComposer / HWComposer HAL
- Hands-on experience in HWComposer HAL development and integration for new devices.
- Good understanding of Android window management concepts.
- Experience working with Linux Kernel configurations to enable Android container and VM-based solutions.
- Experience in customizing Android / AOSP / AAOS for customer-specific use cases.
- Strong knowledge of Android and/or Linux Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL).
- Programming experience with C/C++, Java/Kotlin, and Linux.
- Good understanding of Git and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience working in Agile-based projects.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Familiarity with graphics and rendering technologies, such as:
- OpenGL ES
- Vulkan
- Wayland
- DRM / KMS
- Prior experience in automotive infotainment or embedded Android platforms.
- Exposure to Android Automotive OS (AAOS) compliance and platform bring-up.
- Experience working closely with SoC vendors and hardware teams.
- Knowledge of containerized or virtualization-based Android deployments.
