Job Description
Role : Senior Process Safety Engineer (AI & Computational Modelling)
Location : Chennai
We are seeking a highly technical Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our innovation team. This position focuses on the automation and digital transformation of safety studies. You will be responsible for defining the engineering logic and validating the AI-driven engines that perform consequence modelling, P&ID extraction, and automated HAZOP generation.
Mandatory Requirements
- Engineering Expertise: Deep understanding of Process Safety, including QRA, HAZID, HAZOP facilitation, and consequence modelling (Fire, Explosion, Dispersion).
- AI & Machine Learning: Familiarity with the application of AI in engineering, specifically in areas like Large Language Models (LLMs) for report generation or Computer Vision for P&ID digitization.
- Python Programming: Proficiency in Python is mandatory for developing source-term models, automating simulation workflows, and validating surrogate models.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Implementation: Develop, implement, and validate source-term, dispersion, fire, and explosion models within a Python-based consequence engine.
- Algorithm Development: Work with ML engineers to build P&ID extraction pipelines, ensuring that object detection and OCR outputs are topologically accurate from a process perspective.
- Surrogate Modeling: Assist in building and training Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) or Fourier Neural Operators (FNO) to create high-speed simulation surrogates.
- Engineering Acceptance Testing: Define the KPIs for AI accuracy (e.g., Cause/Consequence correctness, Safeguard relevance) and lead the engineering-side acceptance testing of the platform.
- API Orchestration: Collaborate with Backend Engineers to design simulation orchestration layers and data persistence for safety study deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 58 years of experience in Process Safety and Risk Consulting.
- Demonstrated experience in Python (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy) and familiarity with risk assessment software like PHAST, and SAFETI.
- Proven ability to translate complex international standards into digital logic.
