Experience & Qualifications:

812 years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience as primary DBA

Experience with MySQL and/or Oracle as secondary databases

Strong experience working closely with application development teams

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL database servers

across development, QA, UAT, and production environments.

Own end-to-end database operations, including availability, performance,

reliability, and scalability.

Monitor database health and performance using native and third-party tools;

identify bottlenecks and perform tuning at:

o Query and execution plan level

o Index and schema level

o Memory, I/O, and OS level

Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, high availability, and

disaster recovery solutions, ensuring defined RPO/RTO targets are met.

Architect and maintain high-availability solutions using tools such as:

o Streaming Replication

o Logical Replication

o Patroni / Repmgr / Pgpool / Keepalived (as applicable)

Manage database security including:

o Role-based access control

o Least-privilege models

o Data encryption (in-transit and at rest)

o Auditing and compliance requirements

Automate routine DBA and operational tasks using Shell, Python, Ansible, or

similar tools.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues related to:

o Performance degradation

o Locking and deadlocks

o Replication lag or failures

o Connection pooling and saturation

Plan and execute database migrations, patching, and major/minor version

upgrades with minimal or zero downtime.

Work closely with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams on:

o Schema and data model design

o Query optimization

o Capacity planning and growth forecasting

Implement and manage connection pooling solutions (PgBouncer / Pgpool).

Ensure proper observability and alerting, define proactive monitoring

thresholds, and participate in on-call / incident management rotations.

Drive root cause analysis (RCA) for database incidents and implement

preventive measures.

Define and maintain database standards, best practices, and operational

runbooks.

Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, architectures, SOPs,

and disaster recovery procedures.

Good to have:

Experience with PostgreSQL on cloud platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure

Database for PostgreSQL, GCP).

Hands-on experience with Kubernetes-based PostgreSQL (CrunchyData,

CloudNativePG, Zalando Operator).

Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI-DSS, ISO).

Knowledge of CI/CD integration for database changes.

Certifications (Preferred)

CPSDBA

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

MySQL Database Administrator Professional

Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP) preferred
