About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Protection & Control Systems Engineer to join our growing Energy business. You will play a key role in designing and delivering Protection & Control systems for clients across the UK Transmission & Distribution sector.

This is a senior technical position requiring strong engineering capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead design activities from concept through to delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and advise on all Protection & Control engineering content
  • Chair design workshops and technical review meetings
  • Develop SLDs, KLDs, system architectures and concept designs
  • Produce and review technical documentation (FDS, design intent, compliance documents)
  • Create and review Protection & Control schematics, layouts, calculations and schedules
  • Conduct site visits and nonintrusive surveys
  • Support tendering, solution development and client approvals
  • Ensure delivery to time, quality and budget
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and support risk management


Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of the UK Transmission & Distribution sector
  • Proven experience with Protection & Control technologies (one or more major vendors)
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850 and its practical implementation
  • Understanding of substation communications, protocols and cybersecurity considerations
  • Ability to work independently and lead engineering activities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Structured, analytical and solutionsfocused approach
  • Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to Staffordshire (UK)


Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of substation automation, protection relays and modern digital substations
  • Experience with system architecture design and multivendor environments
  • Understanding of cybersecure design principles
  • Experience delivering projects in regulated environments
