Job Description

A Solid State Battery Lead drives the research, development, and commercialization of next-generation, non-flammable batteries with high energy density. Responsibilities include managing technical teams, developing solid electrolyte materials, optimizing cell performance (cathode/anode), and scaling up manufacturing from lab to production. They establish material-performance relationships, solve failure modes (dendrites), and ensure safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

R&D and Product Development:

Lead the research, design, and formulation of new solid-state battery cells.

Performance Optimization:

Improve key metrics like energy density, cycle life, fast- charging capabilities, and safety.

Materials Science Mastery:

Develop, test, and analyze solid electrolytes and electrode materials (e.g., lithium metal anodes).

Project Management & Scale-Up: Manage project timelines, vendor relationships, and lead the scaling process from prototype to mass manufacturing.

Team Leadership: Guide and mentor scientists and engineers to integrate materials into functional battery products.

Technical Problem Solving: Identify and address degradation modes like interfacial delamination, dendrite formation, and mechanical cracking.

Qualifications and Skills

Education: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or Engineering.

Experience: Proven experience of at least 5 years in battery R&D, specifically in solid-state electrolytes or advanced cathode/anode chemistry.

Technical Expertise: Knowledge of battery testing equipment (e.g., glove boxes, electrochemical testing) and failure analysis techniques.

Leadership: Strong project management and team leadership skills.

Key Focus Areas for the Role

Solid Electrolytes: Developing solid electrolytes that can withstand high voltage and prevent dendrite growth.

Manufacturing Techniques: High-speed dry electrode coating, thin electrolyte

membrane manufacturing, and densification.

Safety Standards: Eliminating risks associated with flammable liquid electrolytes.
