Job Description Oracle DBA
Position Overview
DBA will be responsible for administering, maintaining, optimizing, and securing
enterprise-class Oracle database environments across production, staging, and test
systems. This role requires deep hands-on technical expertise with Oracle database
technologies, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support large, complex, and
mission-critical environments.
The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who demonstrates strong ownership, excels
in high-availability environments, and collaborates eectively with infrastructure,
development, and application teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Administration & Operations
Administer, configure, upgrade, and maintain Oracle databases across multiple
environments.
Ensure 247 availability, data integrity, and performance of all Oracle DB systems.
Manage database objects (schemas, tables, indexes, partitions, storage structures).
Perform proactive health checks, tuning, and diagnostics.
2. Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Conduct performance analysis, SQL tuning, optimization of queries and indexes.
Manage workloads, identify bottlenecks, deadlocks, and long-running queries.
Take ownership of performance and capacity monitoring for all Oracle DBs.
3. Backup, Recovery & High Availability
Design and maintain robust backup strategies using RMAN and Data Pump.
Perform regular backup validation, restore tests, and DR exercises.
Implement and manage Data Guard, clustering, and failover solutions.
4. Security, Compliance & Standards
Maintain DB security controls including authentication, authorization, encryption,
auditing.
Ensure compliance with enterprise security guidelines.
Document and enforce DB policies, procedures, and operational standards.
5. Architecture Support & Collaboration
Support design and implementation of new database architectures and capabilities.
Collaborate with product developers, infrastructure teams, and solution architects.
Assist infra teams in hardware sizing and capacity planning.
6. Incident Management & Problem Resolution
Troubleshoot complex DB issues across OS, storage, network, and application
layers.
Lead root-cause analysis for major incidents.
Ensure SLAs and operational KPIs are consistently met.
Required Technical Skills
Oracle Core Skills
Deep expertise in Oracle 11g/12c/19c administration in production environments.
Strong hands-on experience with:
o Oracle Data Guard
o RMAN
o Data Pump
o OEM
Database Engineering Skills
Database design, normalization, data modeling, schema management.
Storage management, capacity planning, performance engineering.
OS & Platform Skills
Solid working experience with Linux environments.
Comfortable working across server, storage, and network layers.
Additional Desirable Skills
Understanding of PostgreSQL or other databases is a plus.
Familiarity with Mongo/MySQL DB is preferred.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in fast-paced
environments.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) preferred.
612+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience in large-scale enterprises.
