Oracle APEX Development Consultant

The Role

The Development Consultant will report directly to the Team Leader and will be responsible for providing consultancy, development, and support services to multiple customers operating on various versions of Oracle APEX. The role requires expertise in both Oracle APEX and PL/SQL, adaptability, and client-facing skills to deliver secure, high-quality database-driven solutions across diverse environments. The consultant is encouraged to leverage AI-assisted tools to improve productivity, code quality, and analytical efficiency.

Role & Responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and support Oracle APEX applications across multiple customer environments.

Work with multiple APEX versions, including legacy and current releases, ensuring stability and compatibility.

Implement business logic primarily in PL/SQL, ensuring performance, security, and maintainability.

Perform SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and code refactoring.

Use AI-assisted development tools to support code analysis, debugging, documentation, and modernization efforts.

Engage with clients/colleagues to analyse, and document business requirements under the guidance of senior team members.

Application support rota (09:00 17:00 GMT) - meeting agreed timelines and SLAs

Support the team with occasional R & D tasks to support projects.

Key Technical Skills

Oracle APEX Cloud Developer Professional certified

Strong experience with Oracle APEX across multiple versions.

Highly proficient in SQL and PL/SQL development.

Good experience of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

A solid understanding of Oracle Database architecture and data modelling.

Experience with Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS).

Experience of APEX security models.

Proficient with responsive design and UX best practices

Good knowledge of version control systems (e.g. Git)

Exposure to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Interest in applying AI-driven tools to analysis, development, and delivery

Key Consultancy Skills

Experience working directly with business users in client-facing environments.

Good understanding of end-to-end business processes.

Strong communication skills.

Analytical mindset with attention to detail

Solid prioritisation and time-management skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Your Experience and background

3 years minimum experience of working with Oracle APEX and PL/SQL.

Proven track record in building high-quality applications using the most recent versions of Oracle APEX and PL/SQL.

Proven track record in taking a concept and delivering a quality solution.

Experienced in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and jQuery.

Experience of design and delivery of data models and entity relationship diagrams.

Experience of structured testing and release management.
