Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Optical Design Engineer with experience in designing and developing optical systems for vision and imaging applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in imaging optics, lens design, optical simulations, and system-level performance analysis. The role involves developing optical architectures for machine vision, inspection, autonomous systems, and advanced imaging platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize imaging optical systems, including lenses, objectives, relay optics, and illumination systems for vision applications.
  • Perform optical modeling, simulation, and tolerance analysis using industry-standard optical design software.
  • Define optical system specifications based on application requirements such as resolution, field of view, depth of field, distortion, MTF, and illumination uniformity.
  • Develop and evaluate optical architectures for machine vision, multispectral imaging, computational imaging, and sensing systems.
  • Work closely with electronics, software, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate optical subsystems into complete vision products.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot optical performance issues during prototype development and product validation.
  • Conduct laboratory characterization of imaging systems, including MTF measurements, distortion analysis, illumination characterization, and image quality assessment.
  • Support prototype assembly, optical alignment, and performance optimization.
  • Develop simulation workflows and analysis tools using Python or MATLAB.
  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation, test procedures, and engineering presentations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc. in Optical Engineering, Photonics or a related discipline.
  • 35 years of experience in optical design for imaging or vision systems.
  • Strong understanding of geometric optics, imaging optics, aberration theory, and optical system design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with optical design and simulation tools such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, LightTools, or equivalent.
  • Experience in optical tolerance analysis and manufacturability considerations.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and automation.
  • Familiarity with image sensors, cameras, detectors, and imaging system performance metrics.
  • Experience with optical testing, alignment, and characterization techniques.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

  • Experience designing optics for machine vision, autonomous systems, robotics, surveillance, or industrial inspection.
  • Knowledge of illumination design, stray light analysis, and non-sequential optical simulations.
  • Understanding of multispectral, infrared, or low-light imaging systems.
  • Familiarity with computational imaging and image processing concepts.
  • Experience with optomechanical design and integration.
  • Exposure to optical metrology tools and imaging performance evaluation methodologies.

Why Join Us?
