MS SQL Server to Snowflake Migration Specialist

About the Role

We are hiring for our client for the role of MS SQL Server to Snowflake Migration Specialist. This is a project-based role focused on leading and executing end-to-end migration from MS SQL Server to Snowflake, including planning, schema conversion, data migration, performance optimization, and deployment. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in database modernization and Snowflake architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Migration Planning & Assessment

• Assess existing MS SQL Server database architecture (schemas, procedures, views, jobs)
• Perform database inventory, complexity analysis, and risk identification
• Define migration strategy (lift-and-shift, re-architecture, hybrid)
• Prepare detailed migration roadmap and timelines

Schema & Code Conversion

• Convert SQL Server objects (tables, indexes, constraints, views)
• Rewrite stored procedures, functions, and triggers for Snowflake compatibility
• Handle data type mapping and optimize queries for Snowflake

Data Migration

• Design and implement bulk data migration strategies
• Use tools such as SnowSQL, Snowpipe, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, or Matillion
• Ensure data integrity, validation, and minimal downtime

Performance Optimization

• Design Snowflake architecture (virtual warehouses, clustering)
• Optimize query performance and cost efficiency
• Implement monitoring and performance tracking

Security & Governance

• Implement Snowflake RBAC model
• Configure data masking and access controls
• Ensure compliance with enterprise data security standards

Testing & Deployment

• Support UAT and performance testing
• Resolve migration defects and coordinate production deployment
• Provide post-migration support and hypercare

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Prepare technical documentation and runbooks
• Conduct knowledge transfer sessions for internal teams

Required Skills

• Strong experience in MS SQL Server (20122019 preferred)
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake (3+ years)
• Expertise in T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization
• Strong understanding of Snowflake architecture (warehouses, clustering, time travel, security model)
• Proven experience in end-to-end SQL to Snowflake migrations (12 projects minimum)
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and data migration strategies
• Strong data validation and reconciliation skills

• Git / DevOps pipelines (preferred)
• Power BI / Tableau (optional)

Good to Have

• Experience migrating specifically from MS SQL Server 2016
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS)
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts
• Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)

Eligibility Criteria

• Bachelors degree in a relevant field
• 5+ years of experience in SQL Server and data migration
• Candidates available within 015 days preferred (up to 30 days for strong profiles)
• Preference for Mumbai/Navi Mumbai-based or ready-to-relocate candidates
• Strong alignment with the requirement
