Role Overview

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop a range of training simulator systems across multiple vehicle and platform categories.

This role involves building high-fidelity, physically realistic simulation hardware, including motion systems, control interfaces, structural enclosures, and ergonomic operator stations. The engineer will work on multiple simulator types such as:

  • Automotive driving simulators (basic to advanced terrain-based)
  • Heavy vehicle simulators (trucks, military vehicles)
  • Weapon simulators
  • VR based simulators
  • Specialized platform simulators (e.g., aerial systems)

The focus is on replicating real-world vehicle behaviour through mechanical design, motion cues, and control feedback.

Key Responsibilities

1. Simulator Architecture & Mechanical System Design

a. Design complete mechanical architecture of simulators, including:

  • Structural frames and enclosures
  • Operator cabins / cockpits
  • Mounting systems for hardware integration

b. Develop modular and scalable designs adaptable across multiple simulator variants

2. Motion System Design & Integration

a. Design and integrate motion platforms (e.g., 2DOF / 3DOF systems) to simulate:

  • Acceleration, braking
  • Pitch, roll
  • Terrain-induced vibration

b. Work on:

  • Actuator selection and mounting
  • Linkages and motion transmission
  • Structural reinforcement and load paths

3. Control Interface & Mechanism Design

a. Develop realistic operator control systems, including:

  • Steering systems / control sticks
  • Pedal assemblies
  • Gear mechanisms
  • Lever-based and switch-based interfaces

b. Ensure:

  • Accurate force feedback
  • Realistic mechanical resistance and travel
  • Durability under repetitive use

4. Ergonomics & Human Factors Engineering

a. Design driver/operator stations based on real-world vehicle layouts

b. Ensure:

  • Proper reach, posture, and visibility
  • Comfort for extended training sessions
  • Alignment with human factors standards

5. Vibration, Haptics & Physical Feedback Systems

a. Design systems to simulate:

  • Engine vibrations
  • Terrain feedback
  • Mechanical resistance and tactile cues

b. Integrate:

  • Dampers, isolators, vibration systems, and feedback mechanisms

6. Cross-Functional Integration

a. Collaborate with:

  • Software teams (simulation engines, physics models, VR systems)
  • Electronics/control teams (sensors, actuators, embedded systems)

b. Ensure:

  • Low-latency mechanical response
  • Accurate synchronization with simulation outputs

7. Prototyping, Testing & Iteration

a. Build and validate working prototypes

b. Conduct:

  • Functional testing
  • Durability and fatigue testing
  • User-based validation

c. Iterate designs based on:

  • Performance metrics
  • Real-world feedback

8. Manufacturing & Deployment Engineering

a. Create:

  • Detailed manufacturing drawings
  • BOMs and assembly documentation

b. Work with vendors for:

  • Fabrication (metal, composites)
  • Machining and assembly

c. Design for:

  • Ease of installation
  • Transport and deployment
  • Maintainability

Required Skills & Qualifications

1.Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

2.Strong experience in:

  • Mechanical system design (complex assemblies)
  • CAD tools (SolidWorks / CATIA / Creo)

3.Good understanding of:

  • Kinematics and dynamics
  • Structural design
  • Mechanism design

4.Hands-on experience with:

  • Prototyping and fabrication
  • Actuators, motors, and mechanical linkages

Critical Experience (Preferred)

Experience in one or more of the following:

1.Motion platforms (2DOF / 3DOF / 6DOF)

2.Automotive or heavy vehicle systems

3.Simulator systems (driving, flight, or training)

4.Robotics or mechatronics systems

5.Gaming/force-feedback systems (advanced rigs)

Good to Have
