Legal Counsel - Privacy and Technology

Aquis Search is currently working on a mandate with a leading, Asia-focused global investment platform (multi-strategy across hedge funds and private equity) that is looking to build out its legal capability in India.

This will be a key hire for the business and the first legal role on the ground in India, working closely with senior stakeholders across APAC and globally.

Role Overview

This is a global-facing role and the successful candidate will support a broad range of cross-border legal matters, with a primary focus on data privacy and technology/commercial contracting.

You will partner closely with business, compliance, and global legal teams across multiple jurisdictions, advising on high-impact, commercially relevant matters in a fast-paced investment environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on data privacy and data protection matters, including cross-border data flows, regulatory frameworks, and internal policies
• Draft, review and negotiate technology and commercial contracts, including vendor, SaaS, licensing, and services agreements
• Partner with global stakeholders to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
• Work closely with compliance and other internal functions on regulatory and risk-related matters
• Support broader legal initiatives as part of a lean and high-performing team

Candidate Profile

• 812 years PQE
• Strong preference for candidates from top-tier law firms
• Experience in data privacy and technology/commercial contracting is essential
• Open to:
• Lawyers currently in private practice looking to make a first in-house move
• In-house counsel with prior experience at a top-tier law firm
• Strong commercial acumen, communication skills, and ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
• Comfort working on cross-border matters with international stakeholders
