Job Title: IT Server and Network Infrastructure Specialist
Job Summary: The IT Server and Network Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization's server and network infrastructure. This includes ensuring high availability, security, and performance of systems to support business operations. The role requires expertise in server management, network architecture, troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Server Management:
1. Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (e.g., Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Hyper-V).
2. Monitor server performance, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal operation.
3. Perform regular backups and disaster recovery testing to safeguard data.
4. Apply patches, updates, and security configurations to servers to protect against vulnerabilities. 5. Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other server roles.
Network Infrastructure:
1. Design, implement, and maintain LAN, WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi networks. 2. Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
3. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
4. Ensure network security by implementing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption protocols.
5. Collaborate with ISPs and vendors to ensure reliable internet connectivity.
Security and Compliance:
1. Implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and best practices for servers and networks.
2. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
3. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
Support and Troubleshooting:
1. Provide technical support for server and network-related issues.
2. Document and resolve incidents in a timely manner using ticketing systems.
3. Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
Project Management:
1. Plan and execute server and network infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and expansions.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess requirements and deliver solutions.
3. Manage budgets and timelines for infrastructure projects.
Documentation and Reporting:
1. Maintain accurate documentation of network diagrams, server configurations, and procedures. 2. Generate regular reports on server and network performance, uptime, and security incidents.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Technical Expertise: - Strong knowledge of server operating systems (Windows, Linux). - Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs). - Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V). - Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
2. Problem-Solving: - Ability to diagnose and resolve complex server and network issues. - Analytical mindset with a focus on root cause analysis.
3. Communication: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
4. Certifications (Preferred): - CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+ - Cisco CCNA/CCNP - Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate - VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
5. Experience: - 5-7 years of experience in server and network administration. - Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade infrastructure.
Work Environment: -
On-site work model depending on organizational requirements.
- May require after-hours support during emergencies or scheduled maintenance.
- Collaboration with IT teams, vendors, and external service providers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
1. Server up-time and availability.
2. Network latency and reliability.
3. Incident response and resolution times.
4. Compliance with security standards.
