Job Description

Engineering Manager Inventory & Inwarding

Location: Bangalore | Karnataka

Years of Experience: 810

ABOUT THE TEAM & ROLE

The Inventory & Inwarding team powers Swiggys supply chain for Instamart and other convenience businesses. We build platforms and distributed systems that manage the end-to-end lifecycle of inventory, inbound processing, putaway, and real-time stock accuracy across thousands of SKUs (at our fulfillment centers) and multiple cities.

Our systems ensure the right inventory is available at the right node at the right time, while optimizing for fill rates, working capital, shrink, and on-time inbound SLAs. This includes building resilient integrations with suppliers, WMS, planning systems, finance and reconciliation flows, as well as observability platforms for ground operations.

Engineering Managers in this org not only define the high-level architecture for these platforms, but also drive product outcomes by pushing engineering excellence, reliability, and best practices across their teams. You will set the technology vision for Inventory & Inwarding, solve deeply complex technical and operational problems, and communicate that vision upward (CTO, leadership), inward (peers and engineering teams) and outward (Product, Supply Chain, Operations, Category, Finance).

What will you get to do here?

  • Work closely with Product Management, Supply Chain & Central Ops, Category, Planning, Finance and Design, enabling them with scalable, high-quality technology solutions at a rapid pace.
  • Co-own the technology and platform vision for Inventory & Inwarding and significantly contribute to the overall success of Instamart and broader supply-chain charters.
  • Manage business goals and engineering roadmaps, influence product strategy, and translate SLA / cost / reliability objectives into strong technical execution.
  • Build and grow a high-performing team: create clear career paths, drive regular feedback and mentoring, and help engineers and leads grow into larger scope.
  • Architect and design robust, flexible and highly scalable systems for inbound workflows (PO to dock to GRN to putaway), inventory accuracy, vendor onboarding, data pipelines, and internal tools for ground ops.
  • Set up best practices for development (code quality, testing, observability, release practices, incident management) and champion their adoption.
  • Partner with other platform teams (WMS, Procurement, Planning, Delivery, Data) to design well-bounded interfaces and contracts that keep the ecosystem loosely coupled but highly cohesive.

What qualities are we looking for?

  • A hands-on, product-thinking Engineering Manager who is excited about building platforms that run critical supply-chain operations at scale.
  • 810 years of experience in building products/platforms, with 1+ years leading a team of 5+ engineers (backend / full-stack).
  • Proven experience owning and scaling distributed systems (throughput, latency, reliability) ideally in domains like supply chain, inventory, warehousing, logistics, or other high-throughput operational systems.
  • Technically hands-on with prior experience in scalable architecture, design reviews, and diving deep into code/infra where needed, while managing a team of ~510 engineers.
  • Strong people leadership: coaching and mentoring tech leads / senior engineers (and future managers); setting clear expectations; driving performance, accountability and autonomy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize across multiple streams (platform, features, reliability, tech debt) with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with Product Managers and UX/Operations stakeholders, and comfort translating ground-level operational problems into platform requirements.
  • Experience with web technologies and backend stacks such as Java/Golang, MySQL, NoSQL, Redis, Python, Linux, AWS, event-driven systems, and caching.
  • Experience with high-performance, high-availability systems (millions of requests / events per day, strict SLAs) and bringing in strong software engineering lifecycle practices (CI/CD, testing, monitoring, on-call).
  • Bonus: Exposure to WMS, procurement, inventory accuracy, or other supply-chain systems will be a strong plus.
