Job Description

ob Summary

The EHS Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal standards. The role focuses on hazard identification, risk mitigation, incident prevention, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and job safety analyses (JSA/JHA).
  • Implement and maintain safety management systems and safe work practices.
  • Carry out safety inspections, audits, and walkthroughs.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with PPE usage, permit-to-work systems, and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Organize and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and safety inductions.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and compliance.

Environmental Management

  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations (waste management, air emissions, water discharge, chemical handling).
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal as per legal requirements.
  • Support initiatives for pollution prevention, sustainability, and resource conservation.
  • Maintain environmental records and submit statutory reports to authorities.

Compliance & Audits

  • Ensure compliance with local and national EHS legislation (Factory Act, OSHA, EPA norms, etc.).
  • Support internal and external EHS audits, including ISO 14001 & ISO 45001.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, SOPs, permits, and registers.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external agencies as required.

Emergency & Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
  • Conduct mock drills for fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies, and evacuations.
  • Identify high-risk activities and implement preventive and control measures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Environmental / Chemical / Mechanical / Industrial / Safety).
  • Diploma or certification in Industrial Safety / NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA preferred.
  • 2–6 years of relevant EHS experience (industry-dependent).
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
