We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented DevOps Engineer to join our Health Web Application team. In this role you will own the end-to-end delivery pipeline, cloud infrastructure, and SQL database operations that power a HIPAA-compliant, patient-facing digital health platform. You will work closely with software engineers, QA teams, database administrators, and security personnel to ensure the platform remains highly available, secure, and continuously deployable.
Key Responsibilities
1.Azure DevOps CI/CD Pipeline Management
Design, build, and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines, Boards, Test Plans, Artifacts).
Create and manage multi-stage YAML pipelines for build, test, and deployment across Dev, QA, Staging, and Production environments.
Enforce branch policies, pull-request gates, and automated quality checks (unit tests, SAST scans, code coverage thresholds) before any merge.
Implement blue-green and canary deployment strategies using Azure Release Pipelines to achieve zero-downtime rollouts.
Maintain reliable automated rollback mechanisms triggered by health-check failures post-deployment.
Manage Azure Artifacts feeds for NuGet, npm, and Docker image versioning.
2.Azure Cloud Infrastructure & Provisioning
Provision and manage Azure resources (App Services, AKS, Azure Functions, VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers, Key Vault, Storage Accounts) using Terraform or Bicep (Infrastructure as Code).
Design and maintain multi-environment architecture (Dev / QA / Staging / Production) with strict environment parity.
Implement auto-scaling policies, availability zones, and cross-region failover for high-availability SLAs.
Manage Azure Active Directory (AAD), RBAC roles, Managed Identities, and Service Principals for least-privilege access.
Optimise Azure costs through Reserved Instances, spot usage, and right-sizing recommendations reviewed monthly.
3.SQL Database Operations & Schema Management
Manage Azure SQL Database and/or SQL Server environments including provisioning, scaling, and HA/DR configuration (Geo-Replication, Failover Groups).
Integrate SQL schema migration tools (Flyway, Liquibase, or EF Core Migrations) directly into Azure DevOps pipelines for automated, versioned, and rollback-safe deployments.
Maintain migration scripts under source control in Azure Repos; enforce review and approval gates before schema changes reach Production.
Monitor query performance using Azure SQL Query Performance Insights, Query Store, and DMVs; collaborate with developers on index tuning and query optimisation.
Implement and test automated database backup schedules with point-in-time restore (PITR), ensuring RPO and RTO targets are met.
Enforce column-level and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for all tables containing PHI (Protected Health Information) in compliance with HIPAA.
Conduct regular database health checks space usage, fragmentation, blocking queries, and long-running transactions.
4.Security & Healthcare Compliance
Ensure all infrastructure and pipeline configurations adhere to HIPAA, HL7 FHIR, and applicable Indian health-data protection regulations.
Implement TLS 1.2+ for all data in transit; manage certificates via Azure Key Vault and Azure Front Door.
Integrate automated SAST/DAST scanning (e.g., SonarQube, OWASP ZAP, Microsoft Defender for DevOps) into every pipeline run.
Manage secrets, connection strings, and API keys exclusively through Azure Key Vault no hard-coded credentials in any repository.
Maintain detailed audit logs for all infrastructure access, pipeline executions, and database changes for compliance evidence.
Patch critical OS, container, and dependency vulnerabilities within 48 hours of disclosure.
5.Containerisation & Kubernetes (AKS)
Build, harden, and publish Docker images to Azure Container Registry (ACR) as part of every pipeline run.
Manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters node pools, auto-scaling, pod disruption budgets, and network policies.
Maintain Helm charts for all application services; promote chart versions through environments via GitOps (ArgoCD or Flux).
Enforce container security policies: non-root containers, read-only file systems, image vulnerability scanning with Trivy.
6.Monitoring, Alerting & Observability
Set up full-stack observability using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics Workspace, and Grafana dashboards.
Define SLOs/SLAs ( 99.9% uptime, < 500 ms P95 response time) and create alert rules with PagerDuty / Teams integration.
Implement distributed tracing across microservices using OpenTelemetry and Azure Application Insights.
Build dashboards covering application health, AKS cluster metrics, SQL performance, and pipeline success rates.
7.Backup, Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
Define, document, and test Recovery Time Objective (RTO < 1 hr) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO < 15 min) for all critical services.
Automate and verify cross-region backup replication for Azure SQL, Blob Storage, and application state.
Conduct quarterly Disaster Recovery drills and document outcomes in the runbook.
Maintain an up-to-date incident response runbook covering all critical failure scenarios.
8.Developer Enablement & Collaboration
Partner with development teams to optimise Dockerfile builds, local dev environments (Docker Compose), and inner-loop feedback cycles.
Participate in Agile sprint ceremonies; assess infrastructure requirements for upcoming features and flag risks early.
Lead blameless post-incident reviews (PIRs) and drive systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
Maintain internal documentation for infrastructure architecture, runbooks, and onboarding guides in Azure DevOps Wiki.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) or Azure Administrator (AZ-104).
Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux for Kubernetes deployments.
Exposure to healthcare data standards: HL7, FHIR, DICOM.
Prior work in a HIPAA-regulated or ISO 27001-certified environment.
Familiarity with chaos engineering (Azure Chaos Studio) and reliability testing practices.
Experience with .NET / Node.js application stacks commonly used in health platforms.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR): < 30 minutes
- Deployment Frequency: Daily / multiple times per week
- Change Failure Rate: < 5%
- Pipeline Success Rate: 95%
- Critical Vulnerability Patch Time: < 48 hours
- Backup Success Rate: 100%
