Position Overview:
The Neighborly IT Team is focused on achieving great outcomes and is committed to helping our associates succeed through technology driven solutions. We are seeking an experienced IT professional to join our team. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the performance, security, and availability of our database infrastructure, ensuring that data is stored, backed up, and recoverable in a timely and efficient manner. They will also provide guidance and support with development staff on the querying, indexing, and performance optimization of the databases adhering to Neighborly coding standards and practices.
Job Function:
Design, administer, and optimize enterprise database systems to ensure performance, security, availability, and recoverabilitysupporting application needs through tuning, monitoring, migrations/upgrades, documentation, and operational support.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain database systems, including design, implementation, and ongoing optimization.
- Ensure the performance, security, and availability of our database systems, including planning and executing backups and disaster recovery plans.
- Design and implement database security measures to protect sensitive data, including access controls, encryption, and data masking.
- Collaborate with developers and other IT staff to best design database systems as well as troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, such as performance problems or data inconsistencies.
- Develop and maintain documentation of database systems, including system architecture, configuration, and operational procedures.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as database optimization, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
- Monitor database system health and proactively identify and address issues before they impact production systems.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24x7 support for critical database systems.
- Responsible for assisting and performing database code review of other developers.
- Responsible for following Neighborly SDLC processes.
- Responsible for mentoring and guiding other database staff in best practices and techniques.
- Fosters an environment of communication and problem solving, leveraging the Neighborly Code of Values.
- Assists the team in researching solutions and recommends solutions to meet business requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of personal information.
- Interface with others in a professional manner and be a trusted go to person.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Attributes:
- At least 4-6 years of relevant experience in database administration, with a focus on SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Strong experience with database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of database security concepts and experience implementing security measures.
- Experience with database backup and recovery procedures, including disaster recovery planning.
- Familiarity with database migration and upgrade procedures.
- Candidate must be customer focused, goal oriented, and have a passion for success
- Experience and proven ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with business and IT stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Able to lead other database staff regarding best practices and techniques
- Able to clearly document complex database systems and structures including architectures, relationships, and configurations
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Self-starter. Ability to work autonomously with little support.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Sense of humor.
Education & Experience:
- Education: Prefer BS or BA degree or equivalent experience.
