ThoughtFocus is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Data Engineer to support the development of data analytics and reporting solutions for our NYC and Londonbased financial services client. The client operates in domains including Public/Private Loans, CLOs, and Credit Markets.

In this role, you will work closely with senior developers, team leaders, and business stakeholders to develop, maintain, and optimize SQL and Snowflake-based data solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to build strong fundamentals in data engineering while gaining exposure to global financial markets and enterprise-scale data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain SQL- and Snowflake-based data models, views, and tables under the guidance of senior team members.
• Assist in building and optimizing transformations using Coalesce or dbt, ensuring efficient and maintainable data pipelines.
• Support data transformation, validation, and quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
• Translate business and reporting requirements into consumable SQL objects and reusable transformation components.
• Work with reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar platforms to support downstream analytics.
• Follow defined coding standards, data modeling practices, and version control workflows.
• Participate in code reviews, testing cycles, documentation, and deployment activities.
• Collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams including analysts, QA, and project managers.
• Assist in investigating production issues, performing data checks, and supporting performance tuning efforts.

Required Skills

• 2+ years of experience in SQL development and SSRS.
• Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server and/or Snowflake data warehouse.
• Understanding of SQL concepts, joins, CTEs, window functions, and basic performance optimization.
• Exposure to BI and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar.
• Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts (facts, dimensions, star schema, data vault good to have).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of Capital Markets.
