The SAP BusinessObjects (BO) Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise reporting and analytics solutions using SAP BusinessObjects technologies. This role focuses on building and optimizing semantic layers, reports, and dashboards that enable reliable, scalable, and governed access to enterprise data. The engineer works closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and platform teams to ensure data accuracy, performance, and compliance, supporting data-driven decision-making across bp.

What you will deliver

  • Design, develop, and maintain SAP BusinessObjects universes (UNX), reports, and dashboards aligned to business requirements.
  • Develop and optimize Web Intelligence (WebI), Crystal Reports, and other BO artifacts for performance, scalability, and usability.
  • Build and maintain semantic data models that abstract complex source systems into consumable business views.
  • Partner with data engineering and platform teams to integrate SAP BO with enterprise data platforms and source systems.
  • Ensure data quality, validation, and reconciliation across reports and dashboards.
  • Apply reporting and analytics best practices, including version control, documentation, testing, and release management.
  • Support production reporting environments, including incident resolution, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis.
  • Ensure reporting solutions comply with security, privacy, and data governance standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting standards, reusable assets, and developer efficiency.

What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications)

Essential

  • Hands-on experience developing SAP BusinessObjects solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with SAP BusinessObjects tools including Web Intelligence, Universes (UNX), and Central Management Console (CMC).
  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying relational databases and optimizing query performance.
  • Experience designing semantic layers and data models to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, including facts, dimensions, and star schemas.
  • Experience supporting production reporting platforms with SLAs and operational support models.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Continuous learning and improvement mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Desired

  • Experience integrating SAP BusinessObjects with SAP BW, SAP HANA, or enterprise data platforms.
  • Exposure to data governance, metadata management, and reporting standards in regulated environments.
  • Experience with migration or modernization of legacy reporting platforms.
  • No prior experience in the energy industry is required.
