Role Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Commodity Research Analyst to join our Research Desk in Mumbai. The role will focus on monitoring, analysing, and forecasting global commodity markets across metals, energy, agricultural commodities, and related sectors.

The analyst will be responsible for tracking global commodity flows, supply-demand fundamentals, inventory movements, trade dynamics, macroeconomic developments, and geopolitical events impacting commodity prices and market trends. The objective is to generate actionable insights that support trading, investment, and business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Commodity Market Research

Conduct detailed research on global commodity markets, including base metals, precious metals, energy products, agricultural commodities, and soft commodities.

Track global commodity flows, trade routes, import-export activity, shipping trends, freight rates, and logistics developments.

Monitor supply-demand dynamics, production trends, consumption patterns, inventory levels, and market balances across key commodities.

Analyse factors influencing commodity prices, including geopolitical developments, economic policies, sanctions, trade restrictions, weather events, and industry developments.

Fundamental Analysis

Develop and maintain commodity supply-demand models and market balance sheets.

Analyse production data, refinery output, mining activity, crop forecasts, stock levels, and consumption trends.

Monitor industry reports, exchange data, government releases, and research publications.

Identify emerging trends and structural shifts affecting commodity markets.

Market Intelligence & Reporting

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly commodity market updates and research reports.

Generate market outlooks, forecasts, and thematic research notes.

Present key market developments and investment implications to internal stakeholders.

Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on fundamental and macroeconomic analysis.

Data Analysis & Forecasting

Maintain databases covering commodity prices, inventories, trade flows, and economic indicators.

Analyze large datasets to identify trends, market opportunities, and risk factors.

Build forecasting frameworks to assess commodity price movements and market scenarios.

Business & Trading Support

Support trading and investment teams with timely research and market intelligence.

Assist in evaluating commodity-related investment opportunities.

Participate in discussions related to risk assessment, market outlook, and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelors or masters degree in economics, Finance, Commerce, Engineering, Statistics, Agriculture, Energy Studies, or a related discipline.

25 years of experience in commodity research, market analysis, economic research, trading support, or related fields.

Strong understanding of commodity markets and global macroeconomic trends.

Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Key Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of global commodity supply chains and trade flows.

Familiarity with commodity exchanges, futures markets, and derivatives.

Experience working with commodity databases, Bloomberg, Reuters, or other market intelligence platforms.

Financial modelling and forecasting capabilities.

Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise and actionable insights.
