Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Backend Associate specializing in Shopify. The role is based in Chennai, with flexibility for some remote work. The Backend Associate will be responsible for managing and optimizing Shopify systems, implementing backend functionalities, integrating third-party applications, maintaining product catalogs, and ensuring a seamless customer experience on the platform. Additional tasks include troubleshooting issues, improving backend infrastructure, and collaborating across teams to support business needs.


1. Product Data ManagementUpload & Update Listings: Add new products and update existing ones on Shopify including titles, descriptions, pricing, and variants (size, color, material).Product Metadata & Tags: Accurately assign product tags, metafields, and collections to ensure discoverability and proper filtering on the storefront.Image Management: Upload, organize, and optimize product images following defined naming conventions, sequence, & other guidelines.SKU & Variant Management: Create and maintain accurate SKUs, barcode data, and variant-level details to support inventory and order operations.2. Inventory & Stock Management (Whenever Required)Stock Level Updates: Regularly update inventory quantities to reflect accurate stock levels, preventing incorrect availability status.Product Status Management: Manage active, draft, unlisted and archived product statuses in alignment with sales and marketing cycles.Inventory Reconciliation: Cross-check Shopify inventory data with warehouse or supplier data to ensure consistency and flag discrepancies.3. Catalog Organization & StructureCollections & Categories: Build and maintain logical product collections (manual and automated) to support navigation and marketing campaigns.Tagging & Filtering Structure: Ensure tags are standardized and consistently applied to enable front-end filtering and back-end reporting.Catalog Hygiene: Regularly clean up duplicate entries, outdated listings, incorrect tags, or broken product links to keep the catalog structured and reliable.4. Content Accuracy & Brand ComplianceBrand Guideline Adherence: Ensure all product titles, descriptions, and images meet brand tone, formatting, and visual standards before publishing.Product Description Quality: Review and update product descriptions for clarity, completeness, and customer-facing accuracy, including dimensions, materials, and care instructions.Cross-Store Consistency: Maintain uniformity of product information across all active storefronts, markets, or locales where applicable.5. Team AlignmentOptimized Listings: Coordinate with the marketing team to implement keyword-optimized titles, meta descriptions, image alt-text, and URL handles on product pages.Campaign Support: Execute product updates required for marketing campaigns, including promotional pricing, featured collections, and seasonal catalog changes.Regular Sync & Communication: Attend regular check-ins with Marketing and SEO teams to stay aligned on upcoming launches, content requirements, and priority updates.Feedback Loop: Share backend observations (e.g., missing data fields, broken links, missing content) with the team to proactively resolve gaps before they impact campaigns.6. Integration, Tools & AutomationBulk Upload Tools: Use CSV imports and bulk upload tools to manage large-scale product data updates efficiently.Third-Party App Management: Work with integrated apps (inventory tools, review apps, feed managers) to maintain seamless data flow in the Shopify ecosystem.Workflow Optimization: Proactively identify repetitive tasks and propose or implement automation (e.g., bulk exports, template-based data entry) to reduce manual effort.7. Quality Assurance & Data AuditsRoutine Listing Audits: Conduct scheduled audits of the product catalog to identify missing information, incorrect pricing, broken images, or outdated listings.Error Identification & Resolution: Flag and resolve data discrepancies promptly, including pricing errors, variant mismatches, and incorrect stock statuses.Data Integrity Standards: Uphold consistent data quality across all product entries in line with internal quality guidelines and standards.Pre-Launch Checks: Validate all product data before major launches, sales events, or campaign go-lives to ensure the storefront is error-free.Smart Work Approach: Test, Explore & ImproveKeep up with Shopify updates, new features, and relevant e-commerce tools.Flag issues or delays early to avoid bottlenecks across the wider team.Maintain SOPs and task logs so workflows are replicable and easy to hand off.Focus on important product pages first when handling backlogs or updates.
