Job Description
About the Role:
HNR Tech is looking for an experienced Axway API Gateway Developer/ Axway API Management Specialist to support and manage enterprise-grade API platforms for a global client. This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on Axway API Gateway, API Manager, and Developer Portal administration in on-premises environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Axway platform engineering, policy development, security implementation, infrastructure administration, and production support, with the ability to operate independently in a client-facing environment during US business hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Engineering & On-Prem Operations
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Axway API Gateway, API Manager, and Developer Portal across non-production and production environments.
- Administer underlying infrastructure, including Linux/Windows servers, JVM tuning, networking, and storage management.
- Design and maintain high-availability gateway clusters, load balancer configurations, and disaster recovery strategies aligned with enterprise RTO/RPO targets.
- Execute platform upgrades, patches, and hotfixes within defined change-management windows.
API Policy Development & Lifecycle Management
- Design and implement advanced policies using Axway Policy Studio, including filters, circuits, and scripting (Groovy/JavaScript).
- Manage the complete API lifecycle, including:
- API onboarding
- Publishing
- Versioning
- Deprecation
- Retirement
- Configure traffic management policies such as:
- Rate limiting
- Throttling
- Quotas
- SLA tiers
- Maintain API specifications, technical documentation, architecture standards, and operational runbooks.
Security & Compliance
- Develop and enforce reusable API security policies for:
- OAuth 2.0
- OpenID Connect (OIDC)
- JWT
- Mutual TLS (mTLS)
- API key authentication
- Threat protection
- Integrate enterprise authentication systems including LDAP, Active Directory, PingFederate, Keycloak, and ADFS.
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates, keystores, and trust stores with zero-downtime renewal strategies.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security and regulatory standards such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2.
Monitoring, Performance & Incident Management
- Configure API Gateway analytics, dashboards, alerts, and integrate with observability tools such as:
- Splunk
- ELK
- AppDynamics
- Dynatrace
- Optimize platform performance through JVM tuning, connection pooling, caching, and timeout configurations.
- Lead incident triage, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production issue resolution.
- Participate in on-call support for critical production incidents.
Automation & Delivery
- Automate deployments using:
- Axway CLI
- YAML Entity Store
- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps)
- Drive shift-left practices for API testing, security validation, and deployment quality.
- Build reusable deployment templates and policy frameworks to accelerate API onboarding.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Coordinate with Axway vendor support for technical escalations and licensing matters.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, security teams, and client stakeholders to align API platform capabilities with business objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience with Axway API Management, including:
- API Gateway
- API Manager
- Policy Studio
- Developer Portal
- Strong expertise in on-premises infrastructure administration (Linux/Windows, networking, load balancers).
- Hands-on experience with API security implementation and enterprise integrations.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills.
- Excellent client communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Willingness and availability to work night shifts aligned with US EST business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Axway certifications such as Axway Certified API Management Professional
- Experience working with regulated industries such as:
- Banking
- Insurance
- Healthcare
- Supply Chain
- Working knowledge of:
- SAML
- Enterprise PKI
- SOAP
- MQ
- SFTP
- Scripting expertise in Groovy, JavaScript, Python, or Shell
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift in on-premises environments
- Prior experience working as an embedded consultant or staff augmentation resource for enterprise clients
Work Arrangements:
Remote opportunity
Contract for 6 months with potential extension based on performance
EST working hours required (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST)
