Job Description
Position Summary
The Associate Director, Data Engineering & Analytics, is responsible for the strategy, delivery, reliability, and continuous improvement of enterprise analytics platform, Master data management, data quality, and integration platforms. This role manages technical teams, partners closely with business and technology stakeholders, and operates platforms as enterprise services with defined outcomes, service levels, and measurable business value.
Responsibilities
Strategy, Roadmap & Business Partnership
- Design, implement, manage, and communicate strategic platform roadmaps and charters across analytics, data, MDM, data quality, and integration domains.
- Partner with business, product, architecture, and security stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities aligned to enterprise goals.
- Define project scope, prioritize requirements, and balance demand with capacity and long-term platform sustainability.
- Develop multi‑year modernization and cloud adoption roadmaps and associated investment cases.
Platform Ownership
- Analytics Platforms: Tableau, Power BI, R, SAS, Cognos
- Data Platforms: Databricks and Snowflake (AWS‑first, with selective Azure interoperability)
- MDM & Data Quality: Informatica MDM, Informatica Data Quality, Informatica IDMC
- Integration & Transformation: dbt and SnapLogic, Denodo
- Establish standards for scalability, security, performance, cost management, and user experience.
Operations, Reliability & Service Management
- Operate platforms as enterprise services with defined SLAs, SLOs, KPIs, and operational runbooks.
- Ensure monitoring, alerting, incident management, and root‑cause analysis processes are in place.
- Develop and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans for critical data and integration services.
- Report platform health, risks, and performance metrics to senior leadership.
People Leadership & Organization Development
- Define hiring plans, organizational structure, and skill development strategies.
- Manage managers and senior technical leaders across multiple platform domains.
- Coach, mentor, and develop leaders; establish succession plans and performance expectations.
- Promote a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Establish governance for data access, privacy, retention, and auditability.
- Ensure platforms comply with security, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and contract performance.
Requirements
Leadership & Delivery
- Demonstrated success managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams, including people managers.
- Proven ability to execute complex initiatives across multiple concurrent programs.
- Strong change‑leadership skills and ability to lead through ambiguity.
- Operate with an AI first mindset in developing the team and leverage AI at all aspects of Platform management.
Communication & Financial Acumen
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive‑level presentation experience.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Experience developing business cases and managing budgets, cloud spend, and vendor costs.
Technical & Platform Expertise
- Analytics: Tableau, Power BI, R, SAS (governance, lifecycle management, performance tuning).
- Data Platforms: Databricks and Snowflake with strong AWS architecture and security practices.
- MDM & Data Quality: Informatica MDM, Informatica Data Quality, IDMC.
- Integration: dbt and SnapLogic with CI/CD, monitoring, and enterprise integration patterns.
Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Typically 15+ years of relevant industry experience with 7+ years in people leadership roles.
- Strong background gained through hands‑on technical roles and progressive management responsibility.
