Job Description
At Curious, we're building AI-native consumer products for Indian households - products that understand how people actually live, shop, and run their days.
The Android app is how most of our users will experience what we build, so we care a lot about getting it right.
Based in Bengaluru, we're a small team building what we hope becomes the default way Indian households manage themselves.
Role Description
We're looking for an Android Engineer to own our Android app. You'll take it from early versions to a polished product shipped to real users, working closely with design, backend, and AI engineers.
Unlike a typical big-company role, you'll be involved in everything: architecture decisions, Compose work, performance tuning, OEM quirks, release pipelines, and the small interaction details that separate a good app from one people actually love.
What you will do:
- Build and ship features in a Kotlin + Jetpack Compose codebase, owning architecture decisions (modularization, state management, navigation, networking) as the app grows.
- Obsess over the details that define a great app: smooth scroll, motion, haptics, launch time, perceived performance.
- Handle the India reality - wide device range, flaky networks, low-end hardware, and background restrictions from every OEM you can name.
- Partner closely with design to ship interactions that feel native and considered, not "converted from Figma."
- Integrate AI-powered features (agents, LLM flows) into the mobile experience in a way that feels fast and reliable.
- Set up release, testing, crash reporting and analytics practices that let us ship confidently and catch regressions early.
- Keep up with the platform - new Compose APIs, Android releases, tooling - and bring the best of it into the product.
What you should bring:
- 46 years building consumer Android apps that real people use.
- Deep Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android platform knowledge - coroutines, Flow, architecture components, Room, WorkManager.
- Track record of shipping apps with real craft - performance you're proud of, animations that don't stutter, UX that holds up under daily use.
- Comfort with the unglamorous stuff - Gradle, ProGuard/R8, OEM quirks, crash triage, Play Store rollouts.
- AI-native daily workflow.
- High agency, first principles thinking, creative problem solving.
- Comfort in an early-stage environment: incomplete specs, changing priorities, and the need to make progress with limited resources.
Nice to have:
- Published apps (Play Store or serious side projects) you can point to.
- Experience integrating LLM-powered features or agents into mobile apps.
- Exposure to on-device ML, real-time sync, or offline-first architectures.
How we work:
Small, tight-knit team where product, design, and engineering sit together and make decisions quickly.
You'll own big pieces of the product and see your decisions reach real users within weeks, not quarters.
We care about solid engineering over polished decks - if you're happiest when builds, prototypes, and shipped features are moving forward, you'll fit right in.
Bengaluru, in-office.
