Role Overview
An AIX Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing systems running on the IBM AIX operating system. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and security of enterprise infrastructure hosted on IBM Power Systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX servers
- Perform system administration tasks: user management, file systems, patching, and upgrades
- Monitor system performance and tune CPU, memory, and disk usage
- Handle LVM (Logical Volume Manager) configuration and storage management
- Manage system backups and recovery using tools like IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM)
- Troubleshoot OS, hardware, and application-related issues
- Perform security hardening, audits, and compliance checks
- Work with virtualization technologies such as PowerVM
- Support high availability setups (PowerHA clustering)
- Collaborate with application, database, and network teams
- Maintain system documentation and SOPs
